Information is vital for expectant moms and dads. When we learn all we can about childbirth and parenting, we can make educated and wise decisions. Knowing what to expect also helps to ease any anxiety from these life-changing events. Chicago Family Picnic aims to educate expectant parents and new parents alike, and also offers classes for children.
Chicago Family Picnic will be at the 2017 Chicago Baby Show, on August 26 and 27, at Navy Pier, when the nation’s largest show for expectant and new families comes to Chicagoland. A family-friendly mega-event featuring everything to do with maternity, baby, and toddler – from top products to trusted parenting experts – the Chicago Baby Show will welcome thousands of expectant and new parents from Chicago, the surrounding suburbs, and beyond!
Tickets to the Chicago Baby Show are $30 per family, and $20 per individual.
We spoke with a member of the Chicago Family Picnic team to learn more about the brand and what new parents can expect at the Chicago Baby Show.
For someone unfamiliar with Chicago Family Picnic, how would you describe the company’s mission and core offerings?
Our mission at Family Picnic is to provide expectant and new parents with a place they trust to learn about childbirth, breastfeeding, and parenting; and to bring their young children to for high-quality, developmentally appropriate classes.
Tell us about the company’s background. When did it start and how has it evolved since then?
My mother, Sue, and myself began Family Picnic in August of 2014. At the time we offered a comprehensive childbirth class, breastfeeding classes and support, and a support group for new moms and their babies. In the past three years, we have grown in our reach to more expectant families across the city and delivering at varying hospitals. We have also added many more unique class offerings for infants and toddlers, taught by some of the most qualified and unique instructors in the city.
What are the most popular and/or newest offerings from Chicago Family Picnic?
Our most popular offerings at Family Picnic are our Prenatal Classes. Our Childbirth Class focuses on preparing both mom and her partner for the physiological process of labor, how to support mom during all stages of labor, and what to expect throughout the entire process. Through deep examination of how a woman’s body prepares for, labors and gives birth, parents will discover the amazing changes that take place and how trust in your body is paramount. Our Breastfeeding/Baby Care Workshop is also very popular among expectant parents, where they learn the ins and outs of breastfeeding and how to care for their infant in the first 6 weeks of life.
What sets Chicago Family Picnic apart from other childhood educational companies/classes?
I believe what sets us apart from other organizations that offer similar classes, is our continuity of care. Parents that take our Childbirth Class and Breastfeeding Workshop receive an at-home lactation visit from their instructor (who is also a lactation consultant) to see how feeding and caring for baby is going now that they are home, we also have many of our families returning to picnic with their babies for New Mom or Dad Support Groups and even later down the road for baby and toddler play groups. We want to be a place where families gather together with other families they know and trust.
What can parents expect from Chicago Family Picnic at the Chicago Baby Show?
At the Chicago Baby Show, we hope to provide expectant parents with information on how to prepare for the labor that you are given and for the first months of life with a newborn. We would love to encourage new families to come and check out our offerings for infants and toddlers as well.
