Often those cute little outfits from the baby shower only fit for a few days because babies grow so incredibly fast. It’s a shame to just throw away clothes that no longer fit so many moms donate their old baby clothes. The GOOD+ Foundation goes a step further, and collects donated items to help break the cycle of family poverty.
What’s more, they will be at the Chicago Baby Show on August 25 and 26 at Navy Pier.
Tickets to the Chicago Baby Show are $30 per family; $20 per individual. Children are free.
We spoke with a member of the GOOD+ Foundation, to learn more about the brand and what new parents can expect at the Chicago Baby Show.
What should expectant and new parents know about your brand?
GOOD+ Foundation partners with a national network of leading programs to break the cycle of family poverty through the power of donated children’s product and transformational services.
Jessica Seinfeld founded the organization in 2001 shortly after the birth of her first child. She was struck by how expensive it is to buy equipment for a new baby and then how quickly they outgrow it. She searched for a mechanism to redistribute clothing and gear her daughter, and friends’ children, had outgrown so the donations would directly benefit families in need. Jessica quickly understood that you can help a baby, but if the parent(s) is struggling, there is only so much that will change in that baby’s life. That’s where the organization’s approach changed to being focused on the entire family.
Today GOOD+ Foundation partners with programs that have demonstrated a capacity to address family poverty in three focus areas: Supporting New Mothers, Investing in Early Childhood and Engaging Fathers. Through the generous support of donors and over 50,000 volunteers, GOOD+ Foundation has donated over $35 million in essential children’s product through its partner network across the United States. The organization has been rated 4-Stars by Charity Navigator and received national accreditation from the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance for its efficient fundraising and operations. What are the most popular and/or newest programs from GOOD+ Foundation?
In 2014 the organization launched an initiative to promote and expand fatherhood programs and father-inclusive practices across social service sites to help make families stronger. The Fatherhood Leadership Council is led by Jerry Seinfeld and is comprised of nearly 60 fathers. These men help raise awareness and funds for this initiative, which focuses on engaging fathers with their children. Many things can sidetrack men from their responsibilities as fathers–loss of a job or legal problems–because the most common, cyclical problem is dads who grew up without a father themselves—or with a father who might not have been a positive role model.
GOOD+ Foundation partners provide support in many ways including positive parenting strategies, improving the relationship with the child’s mother, and helping a father establish his role within the family. Fathers learn financial literacy, receive support in getting GED’s, and job and vocational training.
What sets GOOD+ Foundation apart from other charities?
Our model is what makes us unique. GOOD+ Foundation donations help parents stay motivated to keep appointments with their social workers, attend workshops and meet long-term goals such as getting a GED or opening a savings account. Program partners report to us that our donations help reduce parental stress by helping to provide for the needs of their children (100%), help clients/families they serve meet program goals (97%), and help retain families in their programs (88%).
Why should Baby Show attendees stop by your booth at the Chicago Baby Show?
Parents can expect to meet members of the GOOD+ team to learn about what they can do to be involved… everything from donating new or gently used clothing, gear and essentials to celebrating the birth of their child or milestones by creating their own GIVE GOOD Campaign on our website.
